RIP Forrest J Ackerman

Although his active contribution to cinema was limited to a numerous cameos and the very occasional screenplay, Forrest J Ackerman, who has died aged 92 was one of sci-fi and horrors most revered individuals.

Credited with inviting the term 'sci-fi', Ackerman is best known for his long running magazine 'Famous Monsters of Film Land' which provided inspiration to numerous directors, writers and special effects experts. In his later years Ackerman was famous for giving tours of his 'Ackermansion', his large Hollywood home which housed an almost unparallelled collection of genre movie props and memoraiablia.
