RIP Forrest J Ackerman

Although his active contribution to cinema was limited to a numerous cameos and the very occasional screenplay, Forrest J Ackerman, who has died aged 92 was one of sci-fi and horrors most revered individuals.

Credited with inviting the term 'sci-fi', Ackerman is best known for his long running magazine 'Famous Monsters of Film Land' which provided inspiration to numerous directors, writers and special effects experts. In his later years Ackerman was famous for giving tours of his 'Ackermansion', his large Hollywood home which housed an almost unparallelled collection of genre movie props and memoraiablia.

Aint it Cool News has a lengthy article on Ackerman's passing, including contributions from those he inspired, including Peter Jackson, Rick Baker and others.

Arthur

The Hollywood Reporter suggests that Russell Brand is setting up a potential remake of 'Arthur' with Warner Brothers. The oscar winning 1981 original saw Dudley Moore play a alcoholic millionaire who must choose between his money and the working class girl he falls in love with.

The role seems a perfect fit for Brand, who currently has a number of other Hollywood projects on the go following his scene stealing appearance in 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'.

Friday The 13th

Yahoo! movies has the new trailer for Platinum Dunes new Friday 13th remake / reimagining which seems to combine elements from at least the first three original films.
